Revolutionising Cargobikes with Swedish Heritage

Explore how Packoped blends innovation and craftsmanship with deeply Swedish rooted tradition to create e-assisted cargobikes that redefine efficiency, sustainability, and European quality.

Why an electrically assisted bicycle?

Why indeed, if there exist e-moped versions of the Flakmoped, do you need a bicycle?

Weight

The Packoped weighs less than half of the electrical Flakmopeds that often use truck batteries. Even if you should run out of charge, the Packoped is easy to cycle home. You’re never ever stranded.

No helmet required

It qualifies as a normal e-bike (Pedelec, max. 25km/h) and adults over 15 years are not required to wear a helmet – we do recommend it, though.

No license or insurance required

Mopeds, electrical or not, require by law a driver’s license and insurance. An e-bike doesn’t. Having 3 wheels, it’s also way easier to ride for someone who has never bicycled.

No / very low age limit

While Sweden has no age limit on e-bikes going max. 25km/h, the German law requires riders to be at least 6 years old.

Looks & health

Now this is of course highly subjective, but we think our Packoped looks phenomenal and even keeps you fit in the progress.

“Only Steel is Real” – especially Swedish Steel

The material of a bicycle frame is a somewhat touchy subject because there are many options out there and even more opinions. We at Packoped have partnered with Swedish SSAB steel for several reasons.

The Original Swedish Steel

SSAB is market leading in Premium Steel Products and has been since the 1870’s.

High-strength Steel

Allows us to reduce dimension sizes, ensuring higher durability at lower weight. We use Strenx 700, Docol 800, and Docol Tube R8.

HYBRIT® technology

Uses hydrogen instead of coal to remove oxygen from the iron ore, so water is emitted instead of carbon dioxide.

Lifelong Warranty

The steel frame comes with a no-questions-asked warranty, because it is steel. You manage to break it, we promise to fix it.

Fossil-free & Zero™ Steel

We aim on switching to decarbonised Green Steel as soon as it’s available. The plants in Oxelösund and Luleå are scheduled to be producing by 2026.

Shorter Transports

No long trips around half the globe limiting emissions to a minimum.

Overview and in-depth description

Let’s begin at the frame, since we already talked about the steel:

Chassis and Main Frame

As mentioned above, the frame is completely made in SSAB high-strength steel and comes with a lifelong warranty. The geometry is the same as the original Flakmoped and proven throughout the decennia. The flatbed even uses the original suspension blocks for a smoother ride.

The Packoped can easily be disassembled into 3 major pieces: the frontend (flatbed and front axle), the main frame, and the rear frame. The 2 frame parts fit onto the flatbed for smarter packaging and transport, again reducing emissions. Connectors in the cable harness facilitate this.

Rear Frame

Material wise, there is no big surprise here – it’s also SSAB high-strength steel. The construction however is rather clever. Instead of having a clumsy tensioner, the whole rear frame can move in order to tension the belt correctly. Don’t worry, a locking mechanism stops it from moving while you’re out riding.

The Drivetrain consists of a Pinion gearbox, Gates Carbondrive Belt and neodrives rear motor, read more about this amazingly reliable combination here.

Battery and Charging

The battery is detachable and locked in place with an ABUS lock. One charging port is directly on the battery and the second is located on left side just above the pedals, so you can’t accidentally ride off while still hooked up. As an option, we can provide a Rosenberger connector and a wall box for the charger which facilitates charging especially in an industrial setting.

On the left side of the battery box, there’s a double USB port and a key that like an ignition key cuts all circuits (except to the GPS tracker) in order to immobilise the Packoped when parked.

Brakes

Talking about parking, our hydraulic brake system comes with a parking brake. Because we like to be on the safe side, we use the cargobike specific 4-piston brake callipers with 2,3mm brake discs made by Tektro, front and rear.

As an upgrade, we offer u-micro mobilities’ brake system which is even used by the German Post.

Steering and Handlebar

While the steering just like the chassis geometry is very close to the original, we have opted for high-performance components in the form of IGUS rod ends. They also kindly provide us with their new handlebar which is not only 100% recyclable and completely weatherproof (lab tested). It also effectively absorbs vibrations which increases the rider’s comfort.

Comfort & Adjustability

Especially in an industrial setting where several people ride the same Packoped, the ability to quickly adjust the height of the handlebar and saddle to your body is crucial. That’s why the Packoped comes with a 120mm by,Schulz Speedlifter in the front and a Limotec Vario-seatpost in the back. Not only can you smoothly change the ride height 80mm by unlocking it with a lever on the handlebar, the seatpost even has a built in suspension with 40mm travel.

The saddle is made by Brooks which are known for their quality and you have the choice between the more practical Cambium material or old school leather.

Protection

Now that you’re riding comfortably, we like to make sure that the Packoped does as well. The corner bumpers are 3D-printed TPU which is a soft material comparable to rubber. It protects your reflectors and blinkers from impact and everyone around you from hard metal corners. All frame plugs and caps are printed in the same material and if you should lose one, you can find the files in the Downloads section. We have also constructed metal protectors that spare your lamp and taillight from unwanted damage.

See and be Seen

The Packoped’s lamps and reflektors are absolutely worth protecting, being bumm busch+müller products all of them. The IQ-XM E headlight comes with high and low beam, while he Secuzed E Brex has taillight, brake light and even an emergency brake light function. Reflectors are all around the flatbed, white ones to the front, yellow to the sides and red to the back.

As an option, we offer blinker combinations integrated into the bumpers that are especially useful in industry settings where the front has a combination of blinkers and white position light, while the back consists of blinkers, taillight and brake light.

Service

The lamp protection in the front has a second reason – our unique service position. In case you need to service anything on the Packoped, you can easily tip the whole thing on its nose and put a jack or whatever you have under the axle. This gives you access to everything at a comfortable height. Well, you could maybe even park like this in very crowded areas.

Swedish Wood

We offer the flatbed in ash, birch and spruce. You can choose between a waxed or a solely oiled finish. We use primarily bee’s wax and/or linseed oil since it it Hälsingland’s official flower and widely used here for wood preservation.

Colour Options

We use mainly powder coating for the frame and Cerakote for the smaller chassis parts. You can choose any RAL colour you fancy and even outside those are many possibilities to create the Packoped of your dreams. Please contact us if you have something special in mind.

If you’d like a whole fleet, we can of course use a colour scheme that follows your corporate identity.

Fleet Management

For Last Mile Delivery or industry. The built-in GPS tracker gives you the possibility to not only see where your Packoped is right now. It also lets you know if one is used more than another, how many km it has been ridden, and how many times it has been charged. You can use this to your advantage, to ensure that all your Packoped are up and running. We offer service contracts where we come to you and ensure that you Packopeds are in perfect shape.
